Welcome to Chiropractors Virginia Beach!

I created this site because I have suffered for as long as I can remember with lower back pain.  My back never feels right but every so often I’ll bend over or pick something up and my back will go out and I can’t walk for two weeks.

A couple of months ago this happened but it did not get better.  I could not work, or do any chores around the house, even trying to sleep was difficult.

I was taking pain medicine by the handful which was effecting my regularity and causing sever intestinal pain… I was miserable.

I’d never gone to see a chiropractor before because I thought it was hokie medicine, kind of like acupuncture or Indian medicine.

Anyway, I finally saw a chiropractor in Virginia beach and the results were amazing.  I decided to create this site to help others who may not have believed a chiropractor could help them.

So, what does a chiropractor really do?  Well, lets first look at what a chiropractor is:

Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine which focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical irregularities of the musculoskeletal system with emphasis on the spine. The reasoning behind the whole idea is that these disorders affect general health via the nervous system. The primary technique used requires manual therapy and that includes manipulation of the spine and other joints.

A chiropractor does not only provide care for patients that are affected with a range of acute or chronic conditions but they give advice about exercise, diet and lifestyle as well. They can also help in pain management, sports injuries and active rehabilitation. Chiropractors utilize an array of non-surgical treatments for patients who are suffering from:

- Car accident injuries
- Sports injuries
- Arthritic pain
- Lower back pain
- Neck pain
- Headaches
- Recurring strains
- Herniated “slipped” discs
- Nerve pain
- Rotator cuff injuries
- Foot or knee pain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Scoliosis
- Rib pain
- Poor posture
- Back pain associated with pregnancy
- Bursitis
- TMJ problems
- Fibromyalgia

Chiropractic basically takes an integrated and holistic approach to the health needs of their patients with a deep consideration for physical, psychological and social factors. One of the most significant services that a chiropractor can offer is reducing pain and disability while restoring normal function to people who are affected with various neuro-musculoskeletal disorders.

Just like with other health care providers, chiropractors adhere to a standard procedure (consultation, case history, physical examination, X-ray and lab analysis) to examine or diagnose a patient’s condition so they can efficiently come up with a plan of treatment. You may perceive this as the same with any type of medical consultation but the chiropractic exam is what separates it from other health care disciplines.

The examination of the bones, muscles, joints and tendons of the head, neck, spine, extremities and other areas of the body is supposedly done for noting any misalignment, defects, asymmetry, tenderness or other abnormalities. Chiropractors are also trained to do various neurological tests and perform orthopedic, cardiovascular and many other common examinations.

Back pain is one of the most common reasons why people go to the doctor. At least 80% of the US population will experience back pain at some point in their life. The pain is mostly felt in the lower back and unluckily it is frequently non-specific which means that the primary cause is not known. Most cases gradually improve on their own or sometimes with the help of home treatment and self care. The pain and discomfort may last a couple of weeks but you should notice some improvement within the first 72 hours of self care. Some people tend to develop chronic low back pain though that it deters them to do their normal day-to-day activities.

If you are looking for a non-surgical back pain relief then you may want to consider chiropractic treatments. Depending on your case, your care provider may recommend the use of traditional medical treatment in conjunction with chiropractic. This type of alternative medicine is basically used as a pain relief for muscles, joints, bones and connective tissue.

So how do chiropractic treatments help relieve back pain? Chiropractors use their hands to manipulate the spine. This is based on the theory that proper alignment of the body’s musculoskeletal structure will let the body heal itself without surgery. Manipulation re-establishes mobility to joints constrained by tissue injury caused by any traumatic event like falling and repetitive stress.

Although most cases of back pain can be effectively treated by a chiropractor, keep in mind that not all causes of this condition can be relieved with chiropractic therapies. You have to be aware of potentially serious problems before starting with any type of treatment. Your chiropractor would have to take and analyze your medical history, perform physical examination and use various laboratory tests or diagnostic imaging to determine whether chiropractic techniques are suitable for your back pain or not.

Chiropractic treatments are generally safe and effective for acute low back pain. The treatment plan usually involves one or more manual adjustments. The doctor manipulates the joints by using a controlled, sudden force. This will improve range of quality and motion. It doesn’t stop there though; a lot of chiropractors provide a holistic approach to the therapy by incorporating exercise/rehabilitation and nutritional counseling. The primary goal of the whole treatment is the restitution of function and prevention of injury besides relief from back pain.

Chiropractic involves a wide variety of practice philosophies and techniques, some doctors of this kind of alternative medicine adjust with their hands while some use different instruments. You should also know that some chiropractors have a lighter touch as opposed to those who adjust deeply and strongly.

For some people, finding the right chiropractor can be a challenge. You can start by asking your primary care physician or spine specialist if they can recommend a chiropractor who appears proficient and trustworthy. You can also ask co-workers, relatives and friends for names. I would suggest being extra cautious though because one person’s opinion of a good chiropractor may vary from another person’s opinion. As a rule of thumb, if multiple sources recommend the same chiropractor, chances are they are indeed reliable.

One crucial thing that you have to do is to ask alternative health associates for a referral. You can do this over the internet as there are plenty of online resources which can aid in finding a licensed chiropractor in your area. Your insurance company should also have a list of accredited providers of chiropractic care. You can check with the ACA (American Chiropractic Association) and FCLB (Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Board) as well for references.

Recommendations are great but this should not be enough in choosing the right doctor of chiropractic because they should be able to meet your specific needs. Ask valuable questions which can pretty much tell you about the skills, qualifications and style of the chiropractor. When trying to choose the best one, you may want to go for a chiropractor with years of experience. Keep in mind that more experience is better than little or no experience at all. Conducting a telephone interview or face to face consultation is a must. Chiropractic services are not cheap at all so you may want to take your time in choosing the right person to do the job.

When you come in to the office for a brief consultation, look around and see if they have a full range of equipment. Do you feel comfortable being there? What about the waiting room? Is it empty or crowded? This should give you an idea how many people like the services provided by the chiropractor. The initial consultation will tremendously help you distinguish whether or not your chiropractor will work well together. Lastly, you want to find out about the cost and what they would propose in terms of a care plan.
